The Oaxacan coast is one of the eight geographical, political and
social-economic regions that form the state; aside from being one
of the seven folkloric regions that proudly make up the same.
The coastal region is found to the South comprising of 12,502 square
kilometers and the districts of Jamiltepec, Juquila and Pochutla.
In general, the territory constitutes a grand extension of the plains
that border the Pacific Coast, rising above the sea through rolling
hills, series of ridges, and mountainous zones that make up the
foothills of the Sierra Madre del Sur, at its northern limit. To
the East it is bordered by the Istmo region and to the West by the
state of Guerrero.
The characteristic climate of the region is sub-humid heat, with
summer rains and a temperature that fluctuates between 22 and 28
C. The region is also a source for Pacific waters being filled by
the rivers Verde (or Atoyac), Colotepec and Copalita-- characteristically
featured by the lagoons, lakes and bays found along the coast.
Oaxaca has some of the most beautiful beaches of the Pacific Coast.
Rich in flora and fauna, and natural beauty, the coast of Oaxaca
offers new experiences to the hungry tourist with a grand variety
of possibilities.

including the Lagunas de Chacahua or Manialtepec, La Ventanilla
or Mazunte. The region is also known for its preservation and
conservation efforts for species of iguanas, turtles, and alligators,
